Problem Probable Cause Action
With the bolts tightened up fully, the lock is still loose on the door. The bolts haven’t been shortened to the correct length. Cut the bolts down to door thickness plus no more than 3/4".
Levers don’t return to horizontal, or lock not opening after a correct code is entered. Front and back plates are not aligned properly. If fitting a CL5210 alignment insert may have been left on the spindle (step 12 of Installation Instructions). Drill out fixing bolts to give you more room to alight the lock. Also make sure the spindle boss on the front unit does not rub on the door. Remove the alignment insert from a CL5210 after final tightening of mounting plate, before fitting internal housing.
The lock will not open after entering a correct code. The clutch is not engaging. First ensure that the battery lead is connected, and the batteries are orientated correctly, (if the lock beeps and the LED’s light up after a code is entered, then the connections are OK).
If the lock still does not open, the clutch may be installed in-correctly, or it may be broken. Please call the Freephone helpline for advice.

The lock will open without entering a code.

The lock may be in passage mode by key or by code. It can only be left in passage mode by key if the cylinder tailpiece was changed to classroom function.  Turn the key 90 degrees anti-clockwise to reset the lock. If the lock still opens without a code, refer to programming instructions (Master Code followed by 09).
Please Note: Of the lock opens turning the handle in one direction only, the spindle may not be orientated correctly. Remove the lock from the door and centralise spindle. Make sure the spindle rotates freely using finger and thumb, (not handle), 80 degrees to the left, then back to centre, and 80 degrees to the right and back to centre. Re-mount onto door with spindle centred in the square position.

The keypad does not respond to any pressed buttons.

The lock shuts down for 10 seconds if 3 incorrect codes are entered.  Wait 10 seconds and try again. If the lock still won’t operate check the batteries.
The lock will not operate from code side, with code or with key override.  The spindle is not connected to the front-plate Hub.  Ensure that the spindle is orientated correctly. It must be loaded from the code side with the spring resting against the latch. This ensures that the spindle is pushed into the front-plate boss. For models CL5250 the correct length of two part spindle must be used to ensure engagement with the lockcase and the front plate Hub.
